This course is suitable for anyone looking to gain further understanding about dyslexia.

Background

We are fortunate enough to have trained over 500 Specialist Teachers, not all of these were from a teaching background. Many of them started with courses like this.

Total Length

We anticipate this online CPD course will take approximately 50 hours to complete.

Units of Work

Unit 1:

    • Unit 1:  Understand the Context of a Provision for Learners with Dyslexia/Specific Learning Difficulties

Unit 2:

    • Planning, Teaching and Reviewing Interventions for Learners with Dyslexia/Specific Learning Difficulties

This course is remote. 

Online Learning Platform

We provide an online learning platform for you, which you have access to through-out your course. The content includes videos and quizzes, helping you to embed your knowledge.

We also provide dedicated IT support if required.

Course progression

We start this CPD course at a level that is accessible to everyone, regardless of their previous experience.

Our standards

We regularly conduct internal quality assurance exercises alongside regular external quality assurance inspections. This ensures we maintain our high standards.

Computing

As the course is delivered remotely, there is therefore a requirement to have access to a computer. We do provide IT Support if required.

Background

This course is delivered by co-authors of the course. It has been designed in a way that is realistic and practical. The course is delivered by people who have previous experience of:

  • Working in mainstream settings
  • Founding and running a specialist school
  • Working as teachers
  • Working as headteachers in both mainstream and specialist settings
  • Supporting and training within the Public sector. 
  • Working as governors.
Unit 1:

Learners will:

    • Understand the terminology used when learning about dyslexia/specific learning difficulties
    • Understand the barriers facing learners with dyslexia/SpLD and possible support strategies.
Unit 2:

Learners will:

    • Understand how to evaluate an intervention programme for learners with dyslexia/specific learning difficulties (SpLD)
    • Understand the qualities required of a dyslexia friendly practitioner
    • Be able to prepare case studies for two learners
    • Be able to carry out assessments to inform a teaching programme
    • Be able to develop teaching programmes
    • Be able to evaluate the delivery and outcome of lessons

This is a practical introduction to understanding and supporting learners with dyslexia and/or specific learning difficulties, taught through a range of videos, cartoons, activities and powerpoints.

There is the opportunity to do this course as a registered qualification. The course is exactly the same, the only difference being your work with be marked by a qualified assessor.
