Our Dyslexia Course for Parents is made up of two elements:

4 Introductory modules – FREE 

6 Interactive Workshop Programmes led by a Specialist Teacher. (You will receive a Bespoke Resource Box that is personalised to your child.)

Costing explained

The cost covers the cost of a specialist teacher who will guide you and be a point of contact throughout the interactive workshops, including your 1:1 session. The cost also covers the cost of a bespoke resource box that is personalised to your child.

Funding

Unfortunately, there are no central funding options available at the moment. We are regularly checking for updates on funding opportunities. Local charities and/or churches are worth exploring for funding opportunities in your particular area.

Low-income families

We do offer discounts for parents in low-income families. Please get in touch with us if you believe you’d be eligible for this discount.

VAT

All of our courses are VAT deductible, so if a school or charity is paying for the course, the VAT (20%) can be offset.

Our Dyslexia Course for Parents includes 4 Introductory free modules:

This section will give you an understand of our background & experience here at Dyslexia Matters.

This section will give you a brief overview of the core characteristics of dyslexia, explaining what each characteristic is, and how they might display themselves.

This section will look at all the different support approaches available, to help you understand how and why they would be implemented.

This section will look at the next steps available to you as a parent, and how you can start positively impacting your child’s learning.

6 Interactive Workshop Programme:

The 6 Interactive Workshop Programmes are led by a Specialist Teacher, where you will watch online demonstrations, be able to practise new skills and learn how to help your child at home. The Workshops currently run between 12:00pm – 01:00pm on Mondays.

The Specialist Teacher leading this workshop will give you an understanding of the background and importance of single-word reading, along with practical advice that you will be able to implement at home straight away.

The Specialist Teacher leading this workshop will give you an understanding of the challenges a learner may have with spelling, providing you with the tools and understanding to support your child with their spelling.

The Specialist Teacher leading this workshop will give you an understanding the skills required for reading text, the potential barriers, along with support strategies that you can use to help your child.

The Specialist Teacher leading this workshop will give you an understanding of the skills required for writing/handwriting, the challenges learners may face when learning these skills, and the potential impact this can have on other areas of their learning.

The Specialist Teacher leading this workshop will give you a range of practical study skills and strategies to use with your child, drawing from all the expertise you’ll have gained from the other workshops. This will enable you to help support your child with their studying and prioritisation.

At the end of the course, you will be invited to join the Specialist Teacher for a 30-minute 1:1 session to discuss your next steps

Location

 Our Dyslexia course for parents is fully remote

We provide an online learning platform, which you have access to throughout your course. The content includes videos and quizzes, helping you to embed your knowledge.

The Workshops currently run on Zoom between 12:00pm – 01:00pm on Mondays.

Your session takes place on Zoom at a mutually agreeable time.

We believe teaching remotely provides people nationally and internationally an equal opportunity to gain additional skills; giving as many learners as possible the opportunity to receive the support they require.

Our Dyslexia Course for Parents is suitable for anyone looking to gain further understanding about how they might be able to support their child.

Interactive sessions

We recommend completing the free sessions, prior to signing up and attending the live sessions. This will give you a solid foundation, and ensure you’re able to extract the most out of each of the interactive sessions
